Listening Eyes - A visual celebration of Music for Galway

Listening Eyes - A visual celebration of Music for Galway

"Listening Eyes" is the exciting and novel exhibition opening at Norman Villa Gallery at 6p.m. on Thursday the 27th October. The exhibition is a celebration in Art to mark the 25th Anniversary of Music for Galway, the organisation responsible for bringing so many wonderful concerts to Galway since its inception in 1981.

The concept for the exhibition which arose from contact between Jane O'Leary of Music for Galway and the renowned sculptor John Behan RHA was to attempt to visually portray the effect of music on the individual. To this end John Behan chose to work with the artists collective core to carry out this daunting but ultimately rewarding task.

From January 05 John along with Fiona Concannon, Ailbe Dunne, Dean Kelly, Donnacha Quilty and Dagmar Towlson of core attended concerts and rehearsals with musicians performing in Music for Galway's 2004-5 Season. From the Brahms Festival in January to James Galways visit in May, each of the artists listened, looked and responded in an individual way.

John Behan is firmly established as a sculptor of international status and his inspirational choice of the young core artists has resulted in a challenging and innovative body of work which at once stimulates and informs.

Live music will be brought into the Norman Villa Gallery on two occasionsat the opening on 27 October with Galway's ConTempo Quartet, whose presence features strongly in the exhibition, and on Sunday 30 October 4 p.m. with Paul Roe, one of Ireland's most outstanding exponents of contemporary music. These performances will feature music written by living composers, the counterparts to our exhibiting visual artists.

A must see show for music and art lovers alike! This show continues until the 5th November.
