Easter Bank Holiday Road Safety Campaign 2005

Easter Bank Holiday Road Safety Campaign 2005

The Garda Siochana Easter Bank Holiday Road Safety Campaign has begun at 12 midnight, Thursday 24th March, 2005 and runs until 12 midnight on Monday the 28th March.

The campaign will focus on road safety with particular emphasis on:

- Intoxicated Driving offences, alcohol and drugs

- Speed

- Seatbelt wearing

- Motorcyclists

- Pedestrian visibility and safety

Over the Easter Bank Holiday period last year 5 people lost their lives and 67 were injured on our roads. Up to midnight last night (23/3/05) a total of 89 people have died on Irish roads since the start of the year. For the same period last year 85 people lost their lives.

Motorists are reminded to drive carefully at the appropriate speed and ensure that they and all their passengers wear seat belts. Never drink and drive. Allow extra time for journeys. Remember that you are responsible not only for your own safety and that of you passengers, but for the safety of other road users.

Garda enforcement activities will be visible on all road networks with particular emphasis on collision prone locations. Numerous checkpoints will be conducted in all Garda divisions.
