Monster Traditional Music Gig - In Aid of CROI

Monster Traditional Music Gig - In Aid of CROI

The Galway footballers and hurlers may not have had a good season but without a doubt music lovers throughout Galway have been fortunate with the brilliant gigs held throughout the Summer months. Before the Summer disappears, another excellent night of music is promised on Sunday 5th September, with a host of over 30 traditional musicians and singers taking to the stage in the Warwick Hotel, Salthill for "Last of the Summer Trad".

This event is part of Sinead and Cathy Higgins Kiltimagh, Co Mayo New York Marathon fundraising campaign in aid of Croi, the West of Ireland Cardiology Foundation. They are being assisted by Bridie Ruane, a well-known set dancing teacher from Galway. They are hoping to raise 10,000 euro which will go towards equipping the ambulance service in the West with defibrillation equipment and also increasing public access to defibrillation, which will undoubtedly save many lives.

Cathy, who works as a doctor with the Western Health Board and Sinead who works with the National Federation of Group Water Schemes are promising an exceptional night of music. It's been some time since such well known musicians have performed under the one roof in Galway. The "creme de la creme" line up includes well known box player, Mairtin O Connor, singer Sean Tyrrell, Mairin Fahy of "Riverdance" fame and Cora Smith of "Lord of the Dance" to name but a few. Lunasa members, Sean Smyth, Donnagh Hennessy and Kevin Crawford will also be appearing, in between their hectic schedule of gigs throughout Europe. Other musicians confirmed at this stage are Gary O Briain, Brendan O Regan, Vinnie Kilduff, Noel O Grady, Mary Staunton, Chris Kelly, Frank Kilkelly, Brian McGrath, Paul Bradley, Brendan and Maureen Brown, Paddy Kerr, Johnny O Halloran, Mike Crehan, Ailbhe O Muineachain, Kevin Huogh, Don Stiffe, Pat Coyne and many, many more.

Without a doubt, a night not to be missed for music lovers of all ages, with doors opening at 7pm and singing and guitar strumming to stretch into the early hours. Tickets cost 20 Euro and are available in advance from Ti Coili, Crane Bar and Mulligan Records, Galway and also The Electric Mouse, Kiltimagh. Further information can be had from Cathy - 086 8568991 or Bridie - 087 2168436.
