Mayor's Awards Winners 2004 to be announced tomorrow, 25th January

The second Annual Mayor's Awards celebrating voluntary activity in Galway City will be presented at a ceremony next Tuesday, 25th January in The Black Box Theatre. More than 60 people and groups have taken the opportunity to nominate individuals and organisations in the six different categories.

Nominations were invited from people resident in Galway City for individuals or organisations in the following categories:

- Arts, Culture and Heritage

- Children and Youth

- Residents' Groups, Neighbourhood and Environment

- Social and Community Support

- Sports and Recreation

- Young Volunteer of the Year

The judging panel have reviewed the nominations and made their decision based on the nominations as submitted. A diverse range of activities is being recognised in the Awards. Also to be announced on Tuesday is the Volunteer of the Year award.

Each of the winners will each receive a Galway Crystal trophy and a cheque for ¬600. The winners' names will be a closely guarded secret until they are announced on Tuesday at the Awards Ceremony which will be broadcast live on Galway Bay FM from 8.00pm.
