Seminar On Corrosion Protection

GMIT To Host Seminar On Corrosion Protection For The Future

GMIT Chemistry Department in association with the Institute of Metal Finishing and the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland are holding a free seminar on the topic " Corrosion Protection for the Future" on Wednesday, 4th December.

Imminent European environmental legislation with regard to end of life recycling of consumer goods will make many current corrosion protection processes obsolete.

This seminar brings together the top experts from two leading suppliers of corrosion protection systems, to discuss state of the art innovations in this field. Thermo King and GMIT are working in collaboration with these two companies to develop these techniques for use in their refrigeration systems.

The key speakers at the seminar are:

  • Sean O'Muircheartaigh,GMIT, who will summarise the progress made by Thermo King in co-operation with GMIT over the last 17 years

  • Martin Chamberlain, Chemetall, who will discuss Silane Chemical Protection to replace traditional Zinc and Iron Phosphate Pre-treatments

  • Ian Adams, Henkel Surface Technologies, who will discuss Autophoretic Dip Paint to replace traditional phosphate/paint systems.



The seminar will take place at 7pm in Room 162 at GMIT. Admission is free and all are welcome.
